Bullying.

I’ve been reading a lot about teen suicides and bullying and district policies in the Anoka school District in Minnesota, after reading about all of the poor teens and children who took their own lives so suddenly and so close together, it got me thinking and remembering my own high school days.

I just remembered that there was an  "I hate Cathy Club" (or something to that effect. i forget the name) started by a girl at my high school. It was truly shocking blow, i mean a club? These horrible and spiteful people had a “secret symbol” (just x’s i think) l that they drew on their hands and focused a lot of hateful energy AT SCHOOL in my direction. Thinking it was stupid then because I had thick skin and a chip on my shoulder, I went and told on her and thankfully there was teacher intervention. Looking back on it now, its a horrifying example of teen mob mentality and I see it now more than ever in the tidal wave of growing up “different” in American high schools.  I would not have gotten through it without the help of my friends and without stepping back and asking myself “why?” I brushed it off as sad and pathetic and went back to more important things, to me anyway, like Harry Potter and playing the flute.

For so many children, they don’t have the support system of a network of friends and family, they are told that it gets better but are ostracized at school every day and with many cases in Anoka, their own friends are taking their own lives. There’s no such thing as teacher intervention with their “no homo promo” policies.

Zero tolerance is essential in all situations that involve bullying. Growing up is difficult enough as it is. So, blackwhitebrowngaystraighbitransgendernerdstomboysflyingpurplepeopleeaters. its all good, they’re just haters who will forever have their own perception of reality and if it affects yours I’m so sorry, there are many ways to get help and you are not alone.
